DIY washing table

Layla now has her own washing table! My husband was able to figure out how to make it with some inspiration from posts on Pinterest. This has reduced the amount of water compared to when Layla is at the sink and it's the perfect height for her.

I read a post from Mademoiselle Maroon's site and saw various examples of DIY projects on the internet and Instagram (including one from the Kavanaugh Report's Nicole on IG). Click here to read a good write up about having a washing table/water station in your home.

We measured the space that we had and decided that a plastic table would be ideal in our situation. I headed to IKEA and purchased the Mammut table in white and two small Trofast storage bins. I also purchased a few other things, because that's what I do at IKEA!

We wanted there to be space on the left for soap and on the right for a small drying rack. We laid the top of the table upside down and drew the outlines of the bins on the opposite sides so it would be flipped when we turned it over.

He also cut the notches under the lip of the storage bin so they would drop in the hole easily.

I added a narrow drying rack (I purchased a drying towel and cut it in half to lay under the rack), dish soap, hand soap, nail brush, dish brush, small bucket and basket for towels. We also used a bath mat so the floor didn't get slippery. An apron is also a must!

It is best to start with a small amount of soap and water. We learned that the hard way.

The great thing about this for us is we can move it very easily to get into the cabinet behind it. We don't go in there daily so it's not a big hassle. So far, we love it. It was affordable and relatively easy with the right tools and knowledge.
