You can use whatever supplies you have at home for this one! Crayons, markers, paint, collage…whatever works for you.  We have used tempera paint, but watercolor would be nice too.

What you need:

  • Waterproof place mat

  • Painter’s tape (optional)

  • Tempera paint

  • Lid or container for paint

  • Apron or painting clothes

  • Paintbrush

  • Damp cloth

  • Glitter and glue (optional)

  • Printable (can be found at the bottom of this page)

  • Yarn

  • Hanger or dowel

  • Cardstock or construction paper (optional)

Preparation:

  1. Print out printables from “resources” section in the course.  Cut the snowflake and rain drop page in half.  You might want to do all the painting at once, or at different times.  Prepare the paper and paint you need.

  2. Put out paint and paintbrush (or other art supplies)

  3. Place printout on mat and tape down, if you wish.

  4. Place out damp cloth and paint.

First Presentation:

  1.  “Today we are going to paint this sun.  I’ve put out red, yellow and orange paint.”

  2. Demonstrate painting.

  3. “Your turn.”

  4. Continue for all shapes.  You can use glitter and glue for the snowflake or paint it with watercolors.

  5. Put shapes aside to dry.  Once dried, cut out and glue back to back, you can use construction paper or cardstock to add extra color.

  6. Poke a hole at the top of each shape with a hole punch or paper clip or bamboo skewer (this should be done by an adult).

  7. String yarn through hole and attach to the hanger or dowel.  Attach yarn to dowel to hang.
